The claim that Tesla created a device called a Teslascope grew out of Arthur H. Matthew 1970 book, "The Wall of Light: Nikola Tesla and the Venusian space ship, the X-12. Matthews, who had apprenticed under Tesla at the turn of 20th the century and worked for him until Tesla's death in 1943, wrote that Tesla had designed it in order to communicate with extraterrestrial beings. Matthews made other more extravagant claims, such as Tesla having been born on Venus.
This was supposedly told to him by "Venusians" who he said had visited him at his home in Lac Beauport, Quebec, Canada. Matthews also claimed that he built a model of a Teslascope in 1947 after Tesla death and operated it successfully, although it is hard to verify this claim since Matthews left unclear documentation of his work. Asked about the whereabouts of the Teslascope back in 1974, Matthews said a crew from the Royal Academy of Denmark came to take possession of the Teslascope...
